We use selective pruning techniques that maintain natural form, promote healthy growth, and enhance flowering — not the heavy-handed shearing that damages plants over time.

Done incorrectly — and we see this constantly — it can disfigure plants, reduce flowering, invite disease, and even kill established shrubs. Our crews are trained in species-specific pruning techniques that respect each plant's natural growth habit while achieving the clean, maintained look our customers expect.

The timing of pruning is just as important as the technique. In North Carolina, spring-blooming shrubs like azaleas, camellias, and forsythia set their flower buds the previous summer, so pruning them in winter or early spring removes the very buds you want to see bloom. These species should be pruned immediately after flowering. Summer-blooming plants like crape myrtles, butterfly bushes, and hydrangeas bloom on new growth and should be pruned in late winter before spring growth begins. Evergreen hedges can be trimmed during the active growing season for the quickest recovery.

We offer both maintenance trimming and renovation pruning. Maintenance trimming is the regular shaping and size control that keeps your landscape looking its best — typically two to three times per year for most North Carolina shrubs. Renovation pruning is a more aggressive approach for overgrown or neglected plants, cutting them back significantly to stimulate fresh, healthy growth from the base. We never top crape myrtles — a practice known as crape murder that damages the tree's structure and reduces its natural beauty.
