Mulch Installation

Mulch is one of the most impactful and cost-effective landscape improvements you can make. Fresh mulch suppresses weeds, retains soil moisture, regulates soil temperature, and gives your beds a clean, finished appearance. We offer a variety of mulch types including hardwood, pine bark, and dyed mulch, installed at the proper depth for maximum benefit.

Mulch does far more than make your landscape beds look neat. In North Carolina's climate, a proper two-to-three-inch layer of mulch regulates soil temperature during our hot summers and unpredictable winter freezes, retains moisture during drought periods that are increasingly common in the Piedmont region, and suppresses weed germination by blocking sunlight from reaching the soil surface. Over time, organic mulch breaks down and adds valuable nutrients back into the soil, improving the growing conditions for your plants.

We offer several mulch varieties to match your property's aesthetic and functional needs. Double-shredded hardwood mulch is our most popular option for residential landscape beds — it knits together well, resists washing in heavy rain, and provides a rich, dark appearance. Pine bark mulch works well around acid-loving plants like azaleas and blueberries. For customers who prefer pine straw, we install long-needle pine straw that is harvested locally and provides excellent coverage on slopes where traditional mulch tends to wash away.

Our installation process includes bed preparation before any mulch is spread. We edge all bed lines for a crisp boundary between lawn and landscape, remove existing weeds and debris, and apply pre-emergent weed control to the soil surface. Fresh mulch is then spread evenly to the proper depth — deep enough to suppress weeds and retain moisture, but not so deep that it smothers plant roots or traps excess moisture against tree trunks. We keep mulch pulled back two to three inches from tree bases and plant stems to prevent rot and disease.
